The 2025 World Open starts tomorrow in Yushan…

By all accounts the venue looks great … and the players were made to feel welcome. The practice facilities in particular were appreciated.

The four wild cards are now known although I’m not sure who is who in the last two pictures

Zhou Jinhao faces Sanderson Lam
Cao Jin faces David Lilley
Wang Yuhan faces Scott Donaldson
Zou Pengfei faces Xu Si

  1. Remarkably, Cao Jin again qualified through the CBSA “Golden Ticket” tournament [sic], winning a succession of 6-red and 15-red matches. He is joined by Zou Pengfei. The two junior players (from a CBSA event) are Zhou Jinhao (16 years old, from Zhejiang) who is now quite familiar and Wang Yuhan (16 years old, from Shandong). Both are talented by very error-prone.

Another young player, Xing Zihao, who has been on tour for 2 years, is featured in the pre-tournament media release. He was a student in Yushan, becoming the first player from their new academy to turn professional. He was talking about how much it means to him to play in this event. However, he faces a tough battle to retain his tour-card.

Elsewhere, Bai Yulu has spoken out against the poor prize-money at the WWS events, saying it’s not worth the travelling expense. This is actually quite positive as it means she may decide to concentrate on WST events, which will be better for her development, at least until WWS standards and prize-money improve.
