Ronnie won his 29th ranking title, the Dafabet English Open, in fine style on 22 October 2017 in Barnsley. He played great snooker all week, and was simply sublime in the final, beating Kyren Wilson by 9-2. He was presented the Steve Davis Trophy by Jimmy White, the Dafabet ambassador.

Ronnie created controversy again by playing his first match in bright blue trainers. Indeed he had badly sprained his ankle whilst running  and needed a brace to support his injured foot. This wouldn’t fit in “normal” shoes. He was subsequently allowed by Worldsnooker to continue to play in trainers … but only black ones!
