Some Ronnie news … 10 march 2025

This was shared today by Nigel Bond on social media

As you can see WST themselves are promoting these coaching sessions.

The announcement triggered mixed responses. I can understand why but I want to see it as a positive sign. Ronnie and Nigel go a long way back. They have a very positive relationship and Ronnie has a lot of respect for Nigel. Hopefully Nigel can restore Ronnie’s confidence ahead of the World Championship and (/or) the coming season.

  1. I’m confused whether this means that Ronnie is working with Nigel now, instead of Lee Walker…

    • I think it’s just a contractual obligation and money-making opportunity to do something at the Saudi institution they named after him and where Nigel Bond has some position. Of course it’s ridiculous to say it’s a great opportunity to see him, because really who wants to go to Riyadh and fans would like to see Ronnie at tournaments, not here (yess I have strong feelings against this whole Saudi venture of the WST.

    • Ronnie has worked with Nigel before but not in a “coaching/coached” relationship. He has worked with Nigel on projects/competitions aiming at encouraging and supporting kids who wanted to invest themselves in snooker seriously. Therefore, when Nigel was appointed as head coach of the academy in Saudi Arabia, I was not surprised, and this particular project doesn’t surprise me either. It may be that the academy isn’t – so far – the success they hoped for and, having Ronnie on site for a few days may well prove an efficient way to attract young players to the place. If I remember correctly, Nigel has also been a practice partner for Ronnie in the past. So, yes, it may possibly be a win/win endeavour.
