When you start thinking about the end …

No, I’m not going to die soon, not unless I have a dramatic accident but …

But … denial has never helped anybody and I don’t want to take that route. Over the last couple of years my memory has worsened considerably. I forget a lot. The fact that we, as a family, had a lot of stress privately certainly contributed to the situation. But now the stress is gone and it’s not improving, quite the opposite. Alzheimer’s disease runs in the family on my mother’s side. She died from it, her mother died from it, and her maternal grandmother as well…

Next week, I will travel to Athens and see a doctor who is one of the very best specialists in the subject. Hopefully, he will at least be able to give me guidance and possibly medications that will slow down the development of the disease. With the population ageing, especially in the south of Europe, the social cost of this disease is very high and that surely is an incentive for authorities to invest in research aiming at finding a cure for it, or, at least, at means to slow down its onset.

I’m not looking for pity, not even for sympathy … but I want you to know that, maybe, I may not be able to maintain this blog for much longer. 💔

Already, I want to thank all of you who read it, took interest in it and contributed to it with comments and suggestions.

Thank you!🙏

For those wondering about the “post featured image”… this cat is/was Mink. she was a stray that we took inside when we understood that she was about giving birth. She was very young and inexperienced. She hadn’t prepared anything. She gave birth in our house. When her kittens were about 3 months old, she disappeared. Never seen again. Likely, she died that day, likely she was poisoned… Two of her kittens survived. Loulou and Lustucru are now 6 years old and live with us.

  1. Mon, you are our hero, a true role model. To manage this site is a fantastic effort. And will be fantastic effort 😉 we are with you and best wishes from Hungary ♥️😻

  2. Dear Monique, I want to thank you for all the years I enjoyed your blog – this is one of the best things in snooker!! There are a lot of information and I always appreciate your opinion!!
I wish you all the best for the future and the best treatment.

  3. Oh Monique, I`m more the “quiet reader” but your Blog is me first adress, to find somthing about snooker, not just, but also about Ronnie. Thank you so much for all and best luck for you and hope, they will find something to slow this damned desease. 😘 Ursula

    • Same here.

No matter how it becomes, please have regular “physical” contact with friends(or simply out outside interacting with others) and if condition allows. (my grandmother worsened a lot in her 60~70’s when grandpa decided residing in a remote village. It was quite uninhabited back then.)

  4. Thank you for your passion, dedication, wisdom, Monique! This blog has been/is my go to place to get a feel of what’s happening in the fascinating world of snooker for many years.
I do hope that your health stabilises and you have many more years to enjoy snooker, well beyond the time when Ronnie retires ♥

  5. Dear Monique,
for so many years you dedicated yourself to the fascinating world of snooker. We, the fans, can’t thank you half as much as you deserve it. Now that this time of spoiling comes to an end all I can say is:
Take good care of yourself, all the best, whatever this might be in your case, and again a very heartfelt THANK YOU for all your commitment and efforts. I never will forget our encounter back then at the Paul Hunter Classic 2017 in Fürth. It was such a pleasure ever to have met you personally.
Well then, best wishes, with a little tear, Ute from Germany

    • Thank you Ute. I’m not giving up just yet. I want to believe and hope that progress will be made in the understanding and a cure for this disease, or at least a way to slow down its progress and that it will come in time to help me. I too cherish the memory of our encounter, and of the Paul Hunter classic event. It was very special.

  6. Hi,
I am from Spain and a big snooker fan. I have never commented here. I am certainly very shy, but I can say that I have been reading this blog for, I don’t know, many years. I don’t even remember when I discovered it but It seems for me that was 20 years ago hehe. And I just want to thank you all the effort and dedication that you put on this, I love your posts and opinions, and the way you explain things, and of course if this blog dissappears, i will feel that a little part of my life will end as well. I am a big fan of Ronnie, but also a fan of you. I am very sure that the same happens with a big big amount of fans like me.
Anyway just thank you very much and of course wish you all the best and hope that there are things and medicines nowadays good enough to be able to live a normal life for people with that disease. And the investment in diseases like this get bigger.
    🙂

  7. Thank you very much for everything you have done for us. Your blog has been, and still is, an essential part of my everyday life.

What I have always liked so much about your blog is, of course, the interest we share. But what truly makes your blog special is you: the way you see things, the way you stand up for people and for what you believe in.

I have always felt that you possess a rare moral compass, and I could sense that every time I read your blog. That is why it was always about much more than snooker.

Thank you again for that. I wish you all the best and hope things will turn out the way you want them to. All the best.

  8. ❤️❤️❤️🙏 Tnx for wonderful blog during all the years. Best wishes for recovery from TrickWik of Norway, Eurosport Snookerkommentator (look me up in youtube and have a laugh🥳🇳🇴✅)

  9. The need for thanks is from our side. I will certainly miss this blog if it really disappears, while of course I hope things are not that dramatic. Be well. ♥️😻
