International Championship 2016 – Day 1

Here are the results:

For the first time ever, all wildcards won their matches. Be sure this will trigger some angry reactions on social media …

The four last 128 matches were all won by the highest seed, albeit not all the easy way. Both Chinese players involved, Ding Junhui and Liang Wenbo, had to come back from way behind and won their match in a deciding frame. Mark Selby hadn’t an easy passage either, the World Champion struggled for most of the match. John Higgins, on the contrary, whitewashed his opponent and set an early target for the tournament highest break: 145. That 145 high break was equalled later by young wildcard Xu Si.

There were a few unexpected results in the last 64 round as Martin Gould, Anthony McGill, David Gilbert, Michael White and Matthew Selt all lost.

All detailed results are on Cuetracker as usual.

Ronnie wasn’t playing today, but he was quite busy all the same:

Earlier in the day, Ronnie, Ken Doherty, Mike Dunn and John Astley attended a local competition,  the Daqing Oilfield PetroChina (Daqing main industry is the oil industry)

And just before the evening session, he was involved in the official Opening Ceremony,  along with Marco Fu and John Higgins. As you can see it was a hit with the Chinese media!
