Five-time World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan has confirmed his entry to the English Open, which starts in two weeks in Barnsley.
Crowd favourite O’Sullivan will join a stellar field for the world ranking event which runs from October 16 to 22 at the Barnsley Metrodome.
Already confirmed for the first of the season’s Home Nations series are World Champion Mark Selby, John Higgins, Shaun Murphy, Ding Junhui, Neil Robertson, Jimmy White, Liang Wenbo and a host of other top stars among the 128-man field.
The Eurosport-televised event will see players competing for a top prize of £70,000 and the Steve Davis Trophy. And the winner will go into the second Home Nations event of the season with a chance to land a £1 million bonus if he can win further titles in Belfast, Glasgow and Cardiff.

The matter isn’t whether Ronnie is right or wrong. Certainly he has some reasonable point, but it’s not really fair when you insult the 70% of the players. Calling them numpties is not the right way to handle with your collegues. Not every player has the stamina of Ronnie, Higgins, Selby and few others. Anyway you have to respect all the players of the circuit, they do their best practising every day, they don’t earn enough for living and probably they will never win a big title. In any case they have the right to try for.
I don’t challenge that Bernd.
In other news, Mark Selby has made a century in each of the first 3 frames of his match so far today…
4 in 4 he won and ironically lost the only scrappy one to Zhao Xintong who usually is an all out attacker. Strange times!
Ronnie has also provided some insights lately about how he decides whether or not to play in a tournament.
If I understand correctly, he probably won’t commit to a tournament if he has to travel to play in a qualifier (against a “numpty”), unless the tournament sponsor pays him to…
BTW: His discussion of numpties might very well get him in trouble…
