Ronnie and Ding are in Lhasa, Tibet for a two days exhibition.
Today, both professionals faced amateurs, who had come through a qualifying event to earn the honour to play legends of their sport.
In the afternoon, Ronnie played the runner-up of the qualifying event, Geng Yuan. Ronnie won the match by 5-1, despite struglling with altitude illness. Nice to se Zhou Ying in the white gloves there.
A nice shot by Ronnie, particularly appreciated by the fans
A 83 by Ronnie to lead 3-1 at the MSI
Ronnie appreciates his opponent’s skills
The end of the match
Ronnie suffered from altitude sickness and needed oxygen after the match
But still signed autographs …
If Weibo’s automatic translation is to be trusted, Ronnie was in tears at one point. Must have felt really sick
Ding Junhui played the winner of the qualifying event, Wu Jinduoji, in the evening. He won easily, by 5-1.
A great 134 by Ding in frame 5.
The end of the match.
Tomorrow evening (in Lhasa), Ding and Ronnie will play each other. Hopefully, Ronnie will feel a bit better.
It sounds really terrible. Nobody will convince me it’s worth it. 😿 Just hope it’s only crappy feeling with no lasting effects and consequences.
Someone on social media who understands Chinese told me that the automatic translation is not correct. Ronnie was not in tears, the blogger was deeply moved – with tears in their eyes – to see Ronnie taking time for the fans despite needing oxygen because of altitude illness.
still stupid innit, agree with Csilla. needing oxygen…anything for communist money, sadly
I don’t think it’s stupid to go and promote snooker in areas where people rarely have opportunities to watch it live. Ding has been doing this for years, notably with John Higgins. Covid put a stop to it, but he’s revived it this year. Needing oxygen when going to those altitudes and you’re not used to it, is normal. Ding needed it it as well. The organisers know it and that’s why they had it at the ready. The players knew that they might need it as well. And the next day their bodies had adapted and they were fine.
