Ronnie this morning ….

Ronnie was on the “This morning” ITV show earlier today … cooking a curry.

I found this account in the press (the Mirror) with some pictures.

Ronnie O’Sullivan swapped his cue for a frying pan today during a live cooking segment on This Morning.

The world snooker champion proved he is a dab hand in the kitchen as well as on the green baize.

Ronnie rustled up a chicken curry for presenters Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, who admitted it was a “surreal” experience.

The presenter confessed: “This is surreal. I’m loving talking to you. This king of the green baize and there he is standing in the kitchen and we’re talking cooking.”

Ronnie ‘The Rocket’ admitted he struggled with his weight as a child but had lost two stone after meeting a nutritionist and fallen in love with cooking.

Ronnie has released a new cook book, Top Of Your Game, which has Top Of Your Game, 70 recipes to cook for your best self.

Ruth did warn Ronnie to turn down the hob to make sure the food wouldn’t spit.

She also pointed out that he only uses one hand when cooking – and some viewers at home noticed as well.

The presenters tucked into Ronnie’s delicious meal, but Eamonn admitted the three of four person portion looked like two to him.

The Rocket revealed that he had weight problems in his childhood.

He explained: “I kind of always had a problem with my weight as a kid. I was a bit chubby and overweight and a lot of that had to do with being down the snooker club, a lot of fried food and that sort of stuff.

“Then obviously as I turned professional I realised to try and be the best I could be I tried to eat a bit healthy. I had awareness there was a good and bad side to eating. It just took over.

Then I got into running and that meant I could eat what I liked. I was slim. Then I got lots of injuries and couldn’t run so I piled on the weight. So I always had that fear as a kid I didn’t want to be too overweight.”

Well those who have seen him cooking with Rhiannon live on facebook will be able to reassure Ruth: he can and does use both hands when cooking. But then the Mirror wouldn’t be able  make a story out of it 😉

Anyway, judge by yourself… here is the show!

Wishes for today and more …

Today, millions of people will celebrate Christmas … and it’s customary to present relatives and friends with good wishes and presents.

I’m a non believer and this day has no religious meaning for me. But I will still celebrate it because … well, because it’s a good day as ever to tell the ones dear to us that we love them.

It’s a good day as ever to sit together and actually talk, have a good time, enjoy a good meal, a laugh and a hug.

It’s a good day as ever to remember that peace, compassion and love are precious. Life is hard enough, and short, let’s not make it harder.

One of the oldest traditions around this time of the year, and probably one at the origin of Christmas itself, is to celebrate the “rebirth of light”. We have reached the “darkest” of the year, the longest nights, from now on, days will grow again, daylight will come earlier with every passing day. And with it, the promise of a new spring, the first flowers, the return of the birds, new life everywhere. It’s a celebration of hope.

So here are my wishes to you all: have a great time with your loved ones, forget the disagreements, forgive, make peace, have a laugh, share a good meal, a lovely drink, with or without alcohol, call someone you haven’t talked to in a long time, revive a friendship, give hug, invite a lonely person, enjoy yourselves. Tonight, tomorrow … every day.

Wondering what Ronnie did last week-end?

Ronnie O’Sullivan helped out at the junior park run at Roding Valley Recreation Ground

Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan led the warm up at a new park run for children.

The Chigwell based potter made it to the Roding Valley Recreation Ground at 9am on Sunday, where he helped a group of 59 children limber up.

The five-time world champion then scanned runners’ barcodes as they made their way over the finish line.

Daniel Carroll, one of the organisers of the run, said: “Every kid that ran got to meet him.

“He posed for selfies with everybody.

“He is a keen runner himself and ran an 18 minute park run the day before.”

The junior park run is now three weeks old.

What began as an idea at the senior equivalent led to head organiser Chris Chapman securing funding and convincing the district council to award him an event’s license for a busy Sunday morning spot.

After a test day involving 14 obliging children running through pouring rain, Loughton Town Mayor Stephen Murray directed the warm up on the first official run day.

So far, 114 different children have taken part in at least one race organised by a team including Mr Chapman, Mr Carroll, Caroline Smith, Catherine Gurney, Karen West, Kerry Parke and Lynne Wakinshaw.

While a new, absurdly fast 2km in 6 minutes 38 seconds course record was set on Sunday, the average course time is 12 minutes and 16 seconds.

Mr Carroll added: “It is definitely not a race.

“We are conscious of stressing that to the kids.

“Some of the older kids who go to athletics clubs are there to improve their running times.

“The last three weeks the course record has been broken. But after those first couple of finishers it quickly tails off.

“We have groups of friends walking around chatting, like my daughter.

“They all have a big smile on their faces.”

The junior park run warm-up starts at 8.45am each Sunday and is for four to 14 year-olds.

Thai Curry and Crumble …

So today was about Thai curry and crumble.

Here is the video they shared.

Ronnie also answered a few questions. His firs event (proper) should be the Shanghai Masters in September.

I tried the crumble myself some weeks ago and it’s really, really nice!

Farewell Marius …

Yesterday we got the sad news that Marius Ancuta has left us … he was only fifty I think, far too soon. Marius was the voice of snooker in Romania. He was to Romania what Rolf Kalb is to Germany. Marius loved snooker with a passion and had been commentating on Eurosport since the early 2000s. He also commentated on numerous exhibitions, featuring top players like Ronnie, Jimmy White, Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham… too many for me to remember. He introduced thousand of new fans to the sport. He was enthusiast, sensible and very knowledgeable.

More importantly yet, he was a good warmhearted person, a lovely bloke without one ounce of vanity. Thank you for everything Marius, I feel privileged to have known you. Rest in peace … and, in moments like these, the non-believer I am wants to dream that maybe, only maybe, there is some place, somewhere, where you are now sitting, whispering commentary next to a table, with Paul Hunter and Joe Davis doing battle.

Farewell Marius …

He said: “A while back I had injuries that meant I couldn’t run. I piled on the weight.

“So I went to see a nutritionist and since then I’ve lost about a stone and a half.

“I feel better than I have ever felt and that’s down to a combination of fitness and nutrition. I’m much healthier.

“When I get to 50, 60, 70 I want to look well.

“I don’t want to have a heart attack and end up sitting there with tubes hanging out of me. I don’t want to look a state in front of my grandkids.”

One of snooker’s greatest ever players declared: “I want to be active and live as long as I can. I want to live to a hundred and I don’t want those years to be s***.”

Ronnie reckons his new fitness empire is just what Britain needs.

He added: “As a nation we are unhealthy. There’s a tendency to eat the wrong foods.”

Ronnie is also carving out a career as a novelist. His new title Double Kiss is already a hit.
