Ronnie O’Sullivan, Steve Davis and Mark Selby will be playing in another #SnookerTitans Trophy edition, this time set to take place in Cluj on 18th & 19th of June. The three snooker stars are to be accompanied by Reanne Evans and Jimmy White.

#RomaniaLovesSnooker and the latest edition of the #SnookerTitans Trophy (2-3 April) proved that in grand style. Ronnie O’Sullivan, Stephen Hendry, Mark Williams and Jimmy White entertained the Romanian audience for two days of what could be easily described as pure snooker bliss.

In the end, because this is a competition, Mark Williams got to lift the first #SnookerTitans trophy, but in the heart of the Romanian public every player was a winner that day. More on that marvellous experience here.

Now the time has come for the #SnookerTitans Trophy to get on the road and reach another corner of the country, (aka. Cluj) so on 18th and 19th of June 2016 the Romanian audience will get the chance to see la crème de la crème: Ronnie O’Sullivan, Steve Davis, Mark Selby, the 11-time ladies world champion Reanne Evans and “The People’s champion” Jimmy White (until this point his presence hasn’t been confirmed, so more to follow on this subject).

Six-time world champion, Steve Davis has just announced his retirement from professional snooker (click here to find out more) after no less than 38 years of playing across the globe, so this will be a tremendous occasion for the Romanian public to meet & greet the man that dominated the 80s and has had a huge saying on how snooker has developed throughout the years.

The event will take place at the Polyvalent Hall from Cluj, the same place that will host the European Championship (Romanian’s first ever snooker ranking event) from October 3rd to 9th  and is organized by McCann&Thiess Events.

The event’s top organizer, Mr Adrian Thiess started this project back in November 2015, when the Romanian public had its first genuine snooker encounter with Ronnie O’Sullivan and Stuart Bingham refereed by Michaela Tabb at the Circus Arena from Bucharest.

Tickets are available online at: eventim.ro

So, who’s coming? Come on, I know you want to! 😉

The Snooker Titans Trophy – 3 April 2016

After weeks posting about fitness, healty food, etc. … Ronnie was in a somewhat strange mood at the end of the first day, judging by his tweets:

RonRomaniaBurgerTweetRonRomaniaJapanese
This last image, posted a copuple of hours after the firt two tweets, looks very much like the Japanese grill here at the restaurant, and was quoted “Have some of that beauty!” …
Well I suppose everyone needs to vent at times, but apparently he was back on tracks pretty quickly. Phew!!!

More seriously, it was another great day of snooker, here in Bucharest. Jimmy White beat Stephen Hendry by 6-3 (if I remember correctly), Mark Williams beat Ronnie by 6-4 in the final. But the results aren’t that important, what is, is that both matches were high quality affairs, very entertaining, with all players playing well and going for their shots fearmlessly.

I was glad to see Stephen play much better that the previous day; he still missed a few, but he also got some crazy ones. Jimmy just like the day before was solid and scoring well.

Ronnie was beaten but, honestly, I can’t remember him missing any easy shot all match; he missed a difficult long one, a tricky one in the middle back, and was unlucky with the split a couple of times… it’s all it took for “Willo” to beat him. Because Mark was unreal, expescially after the interval, you just knew he wasn’t going to miss. Living to his nickname, the Welsh Potting Machine, to the full. Ronnie lead 3-1, was pegged back 3-3, lead 4-3 … and from then he barely had a shot! Super Mark!

Here are images, I (Monique Limbos) took yesterday. Enjoy!

More pictures can be found on the facebook album.

Huge thanks to the organisers, this was just fantastic, and even bigger thanks to the Romanian crowds. They were unbelievable!

Now find Ronnie in this one, yes, he’s signing autographs, and, yes, he came out in one piece!

The Snooker Titans Trophy – 2 April 2016

Ronnie is back in  the Globus Circus, in Bucharest, this time with Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry and Mark Williams. This exhibition is played over two days, as a mini tournament.

Yesterday, in the semi finals, Mark Williams beat Stephen Hendy by 6-2, whilst Ronnie beat Jimmy White by 6-4. We had four centuries: 105 and 111 by “Willo”, 105 by Jimmy and 110 by Ronnie plus a few other big breaks.

Mark Williams had little trouble to beat Stephen Hendry, who, to be honest, is really struggling nowadays. It’s obvious that he’s not practising snooker much anymore.

Ronnie ran to a 5-1 lead, before Jimmy came back to 5-4. Both were playing well and if Jimmy can bring the game he has in exhibitions, into competition, he’s still a force.

Earlier yesterday, the players met the press, and the fans who were able to get autographs.

Here are some pictures – taken by me, Monique Limbos – of Ronnie and Jimmy in action, yesterday evening

Today,  in the late afternoon, Jimmy will play Stephen, for the 3rd and 4th places, whilst Ronnie will play Mark in the final, later in the evening.

All yesterday pictures are on my Facebook page in the event album

Nostalgia in Coventry

Ronnie played a club night yesterday in the Arches Coventry. It was packed and everyone had a great time – Ronnie wants to come back!

Ronnie had a 104 and a 112, the latter being a missed maximum … the last red failed him.

There was a bit of nostalgia as well as he played Mick Price, the man who was at the receiving end of Ronnies first 147… you know the one in 5’20” at the Crucible in 1997.

Judd talks to Hector Nunns ahead of the Eleven 30 Series

TRUMP: I AM IMMUNE TO O’SULLIVAN FEAR FACTOR

Hector Nunns February 10, 2016

Judd Trump believes he is immune to a Ronnie O’Sullivan ‘fear factor’ that still appears to cripple many of the Rocket’s rivals.

The Juddernaut will be one of O’Sullivan’s biggest world title challengers at the Crucible when the 40-year-old goes for a sixth crown later this year.

O’Sullivan was pushed to 6-5 by Mark Williams in the first round but overall won last month’s Masters at a relative canter after opponents failed to fire – and that has also happened in Sheffield.

World No5 Trump trails O’Sullivan just 8-7 in the overall head to head, and has pushed him very close even in some of those losses.

And the 26-year-old, who will play a series of six showdown matches this summer against O’Sullivan, insists even top players are scared just entering the arena.

He said: “Ronnie still has a fear factor with many players, you saw that in the Masters final where he beat Barry Hawkins 10-1.

“So many just don’t play well against him, and even when he isn’t playing that well players just play so badly in their matches.

“Everyone gets so scared playing him and that is something that no one else in the game possesses, it his biggest asset now.

“Luckily it doesn’t get me like that, I beat him early in my career and that helped, some guys on tour have either never beaten him or not for 10 years.”

The six-match Trump v O’Sullivan series, over the best of 11 frames and at venues in England, Ireland and Northern Ireland, is lined up to have a shot-clock of 30 seconds per shot – but Trump has challenged his opponent to prove he truly is still ‘The Rocket’.

The pair are among if not the quickest players on the circuit, but Trump claims both can go faster.

He added: “I think 30 seconds is loads of time, probably too long for us. We are both comfortable playing under 20 seconds, so maybe we can get that down.

“Everyone should be playing to that speed anyway, 23-25 seconds, you know the shot you are going to play. If you play quicker, you play better – look at Neil Robertson.

“I will go for any time on the shot-clock, let’s see what Ronnie agrees to and can cope with. Hopefully he’d go for 15 seconds, 10 seconds even.”

Personally, I think that 30 seconds, or even 25 seconds is good. It guarantees that the players don’t waste any time procastinating over shots. But it’s still plenty enough time to think or to get properly on the shot when using the rest or another implement.

15 or, worse, 10 seconds, makes using implements virtually impossible and will result in bashing balls around. It might suit Judd but I hope Ronnie and the promoters will resist the idea and stick to the initial format. I want to see proper and skillful snooker, not slapstick.
